In today’s fast-paced world, we often seek information that’s both quick to digest and rich in substance. That’s where my “Minute” series comes in, aiming to deliver impactful insights in just a minute’s read. In an era where athletes are expected to be multifaceted, Federer exemplified how to strike a balance between athletic excellence and savvy business acumen.Federer’s brand is not confined by the lines of a tennis court; it’s a global emblem of sophistication and strategic partnerships. This post is dedicated to aspiring athletes working tirelessly to carve out their niche, not just in sports but as entrepreneurs shaping their personal brands. I invite you to join me in this learning expedition. Share your thoughts, offer suggestions, your feedback will help refine the “Minute” series into a source for quick, yet helpful learning.Data: SPORF, The Sporting News, Forbes#RogerFederer #SportsBusiness

In the next 20 years, we'll see more footballers becoming billionaires, according to founder and investor David Olusegun."We've already seen American athletes like Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Serena Williams, and Shaquille O'Neal achieve this milestone," he writes on LinkedIn. Football players that have already secured billionaire status include Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham. "If footballers start operating like businesses, several could become billionaires by 2040," writes Olusegun, noting that much of their wealth comes from off-field projects. People like to compare ratings of men’s and women’s basketball, but I think it’s an apples-to-oranges situation. The fact is that while both leagues are playing basketball, they’re doing so with emphasis on different strengths. The NBA is often dominated by one-on-one play, while the women’s game offers tons of competition, high-level fundamentals, and footwork. There is a lot of strategy and ball movement. And If you think the women can’t hang, think again: NBA and WNBA athletes train together. Kawhi Leonard credits WNBA players for teaching him how to use his pivot foot more effectively, and WNBA teams tap high-level men to train against to perfect their craft. The other thing to watch with the women’s game: it’s evolving, and fast. Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, and others are bringing more talent into the game. The men’s and women’s leagues don’t have to compete. They can be complementary and grow together.#basketball #wnba #innovation #sportsbusiness

I was lucky enough to meet Roger Federer at a book signing for his newly released biography a couple of days ago. With only 20 seconds in front of him, I had to make it count. So I asked: “Roger, you’ve faced injuries, comebacks, and challengers throughout your career. What do you think you had that others didn’t that kept you at the top?”To be honest, I was expecting him to talk about focus.About resilience.About never stopping. So I was surprised when he said: “You have to love the process, not just focus on the results. You have to love it, and trust it.”And then my time was up.But that idea - of loving the process - stuck with me. It’s not just about winning or being on top, but about embracing everything that happens along the way: the challenges, the setbacks, the learnings. Federer’s success is built on his commitment to the journey, not just the destination. In business, the same applies. There is a constant pressure to focus on the outcome - quarterly numbers, market share - but true longevity comes from staying committed to what you stand for, even when the path isn’t straightforward. That’s why at Butterfly I always talk about knowing the business you’re in. It’s not just about what you make, it’s about what you deliver on a deeper, more emotional level. That’s your North Star. When brands love their own process - staying committed to evolving with intention while staying true to their core - they thrive. Federer never deviated from who he was, but he kept refining his game, staying connected to what made him great in the first place. Brands need to do the same: adapt without losing sight of what makes them unique.Longevity isn’t about chasing every new trend or reacting to every competitor. It’s about trusting your process, playing the long game, and evolving with purpose. Brands that get that will stay relevant—no matter how many challengers come their way.#vibrantthinking #inspiration #northstar #butterfly

Interesting article. There’s always that moment when athletes wonder what they’re going to do once they’ve retired. Obviously not every player or athlete is able to pop out and buy a football club. But athletes transferable skills and mindset create the possibility to forge into any number of new directions. And I’m here to help them figure which one is right for them.
