Our hearts here at Soaps.com go out to General Hospital‘s James Patrick Stuart, his wife Jocelyn and their family as Valentin’s portrayer shared the sad news on Twitter/X that, “My mother-in-law, Barbara, has passed away after a painful fight with pancreatic cancer.” Fans were quick to share their condolences, with some even sharing their own heartbreaking losses from the disease.

But sometimes some good can come out of even the most painful of times, and Stuart’s mother-in-law wanted her passing to create positive change in the world. So rather than holding a service for her, the actor shared that she, “instead wanted us to give the Arroyo Grande Hospital Foundation for further care of others. If you are so inclined.”
You can see his tweet, along with the link to the fundraiser page below.

As the hospital’s page says, “Every dollar raised stays in our community, benefiting cancer programs and supporting services for patients and families!” It benefits the Mission Hope Cancer Center which is dedicated to providing compassionate care for the community, something vitally important to those battling cancer and their families.
So while Stuart and his family have to say goodbye, perhaps the donations made in Stillwell’s name will help prevent other families from going through the same loss. We can think of no better way to honor her memory than that. Our thoughts are with Stuart and his family during this painful time of saying goodbye.
Take a moment to look back on all those we’ve lost in the daytime world so far this year in our memorial photo gallery below.
