Are reusable K-Cups worth it? ›

Eco-friendly: One of the significant benefits of using a refillable K-Cup is its positive environmental impact. Disposable K-Cups generate significant waste, as they are typically made of plastic and are only sometimes recyclable.

The Keurig Universal Reusable Filter can fit any model of Keurig machine, but other reusable cups may only be compatible with certain models. Check the K-cup's packaging to see which Keurig machines they work with.

The amount of coffee to put in a reusable K-cup depends on your personal taste preferences and the desired strength of your coffee. Typically, you can add anywhere from 2 teaspoons to 2 tablespoons of ground coffee for a standard 8-ounce serving.

In general, a fine grind works best for reusable pods - this means that the water has to work a little harder to get through that ground coffee, creating strong, fuller bodied espresso and a beautiful extraction. Whereas a coarser grind tends to produce gentler flavours and a lighter colour crema.

Problem: The main reason you might be seeing this error message is possibly due to the sensor not detecting the reusable K Cup or due to something as simple as the laser lens needing a quick clean. Solution: Try repositioning your reusable K-Cup and turn it around so it is directly in the middle.

It's worth noting that when buying pre-ground coffee (especially from the supermarket), it's usually a very fine grind size. However for the majority of our reusable pods, we recommend using a medium-fine grind for optimal results.

Pre-Ground vs Freshly Ground

These K-Cups offer convenience but often sacrifice freshness. On the other hand, drip coffee makers give you the option to use pre-ground coffee or freshly grind your favorite coffee beans, ensuring maximum freshness and full flavor extraction.

Medium grind is the best for your Keurig: Medium grind will produce a cup of coffee that is not too strong or too weak. Grind your beans at home to get the best flavor and consistency: Grind your own beans for the best cup of coffee you can get.

No K-cups and Coffee Pods are NOT the same and are NOT interchangeable. K-cups are specifically designed to be used in the Keurig single cup coffee maker only. Keurig has recently changed the name of their "K-CUP" to "K-CUP PODS" but they are very different than actual paper coffee pods.

Fill a bowl with a solution of equal parts water and vinegar and let the pod soak for a few minutes. Then, rinse thoroughly with water. Use a cleaning brush. A small cleaning brush can be used to get into any hard-to-reach areas of your reusable coffee pod.

There are a number of good reasons to get a reusable coffee cup. They typically have a better seal than disposable cups, they can keep coffee hot or cold for longer, they don't burn your hand when you hold them…. and they last.

This is the reality: The mechanics of a standard plastic K-Cup accommodate a one-time use. Once you've brewed a cup of coffee, the grounds inside the pod are waterlogged. A second pass will give you a diluted brew, which is definitely not how you want to get that mid-morning kick.

Loading and reloading refillable pods can also be more cost-effective than continuously buying new pods outright. The more coffee you drink, the more you stand to save with this super-sustainable option. Easy to use and environmentally friendly, there's much to be said for investing in a good set of refillable K Cups.
